I can’t be the only person who believes that any birds’ nest is a more impressive work of art than anything I could craft. And yet I keep trying. I think that is because I also believe that there is no better way for me to show my appreciation for the gift of life and time that the universe has granted me than to venture out into the breathable air and look closely.

These paintings were done as a way to celebrate the physical building that our school community occupies. Holding that space in our hearts as we show our inner fortitude until we can return to that shared gathering space.

A building that, much like a bird’s carefully crafted nest, has served a vital function and whose beauty comes from the care that has been invested in it. A care that is driven, to extend the analogy, by the desire to create space for future generations. And like a bird’s nest is woven together with living strands, so is this shared space woven together through generations with rich and varied cultural bonds, laying clear a long and gorgeous history of shared values.

That is what I see when I look at our school.
