Have a Nature Scavenger Hunt
Select some natural treasures and make a scavenger hunt.
This is an opportunity for your child to further explore and engage with the natural world while having fun searching for and gathering the items. You can make the hunt relatively small and simple by using half of an egg carton, or feel free to utilize a whole carton or multiple! The carton serves as a fun little tray for children to collect and keep the treasures they find.
Gather some colored pencils and get ready to use your drawing skills.
Materials:
Collect or identify natural items to draw for the scavenger hunt
Colored pencils
Egg carton
Scissors
Paper
Tape
Decide how many and which items you wish to put in the scavenger hunt and cut out square or circular pieces of paper to draw them on.
Draw the items in your scavenger hunt using colored pencils. Try to be as realistic as possible, but no matter how the drawings turn out, it will still be a fun riddle and hunt for children to try and match your drawings with items in the natural environment.
Tape the drawings to the top of the carton and give it to your child.
Let children wander around the area you found the items in, whether it is in your garden, park, hiking trail, etc.
Watch in delight as children gleefully collect and admire the treasures!
